Mortgage Lowdown

Another Mortgage Website

Buying or keeping a home in the UK doesn’t feel straightforward anymore.
Prices are high, rates move around, wages don’t keep up, and it can feel like the whole thing is stacked against normal people trying to get on or stay on the ladder.

Mortgage Lowdown is my place to unpack all of this in plain English. No jargon, no headlines designed to scare you – just clear explanations so you can understand what’s going on and feel a bit more in control.

Work in Progress

This site is very much a work in progress.

Right now you’ll see more empty space than articles. Over time, I’ll be filling it with simple guides on things like:

– how mortgages actually work in the UK
– what affects your monthly payments
– remortgaging when your deal ends
– buying with a partner or family

dealing with higher rates and the cost of living squeeze

The idea isn’t to tell you what to do, but to give you enough background so the decisions in front of you don’t feel like a complete mystery.

Why This Mortgage Site Exists

A lot of people feel like the system isn’t working for them – especially younger buyers, renters, and families who are doing all the “right” things and still find home ownership out of reach.

I’m not here to give financial advice or take a political side. I’m just trying to:

– break down how mortgages and housing really work in practice
– highlight the bits that often get glossed over
– give you context so you can ask better questions of lenders and brokers

If you feel like everyone else somehow got the rulebook and you didn’t, this site is for you.

How This Mortgage Site Might Help

As the content grows, you’ll be able to use Mortgage Lowdown to:

– sense-check what you’re being told
– understand the trade-offs between different options
– learn what to look out for before you sign anything
– feel more confident when you speak to a professional adviser

And for some people, there’ll also be the option to share your details so you can be put in touch with a local, regulated mortgage adviser who can go through your situation properly.

Quick disclaimer

Mortgage Lowdown is not a bank, lender, or mortgage adviser.
It’s an information site only.

Nothing here is personal advice, and it won’t be right for every situation. Before you make any decisions about a mortgage or your finances, you should always speak to an FCA-regulated adviser or lender who can look at your specific circumstances.

In some cases, if you choose to be introduced to an adviser through this site and go ahead with a mortgage, I may receive a referral fee. That doesn’t change the information I share here, but it’s important you know it.
